How it works

From a pile of documents to a lodged return.

Two phases. Data preparation happens in TaxPilot; lodgement happens in Xero, straight away or months later, from the same signed-off return.

Phase A: Data preparation

In TaxPilot. Ends at the “all green” gate, when you’ve signed off every figure.

  1. 1

    Upload

Documents arrive, uploaded by you or sent by the taxpayer into their secure vault. Each file is stored and de-duplicated.

  2. 2

    Classify

Each document is identified: PAYG summary, dividend statement, rental summary, managed-fund AMMA, crypto report, and so on. Anything ambiguous goes to a review queue rather than being guessed.

  3. 3

    Extract

Values are read from each document and mapped into the right worksheet fields, each carrying a confidence score and a link back to its place on the page.

  4. 4

    Review & green-light

You work through the figures in a split-pane reviewer: document on one side, extracted values on the other. Confirm, correct, or reject each one until the return is all green.

Phase B: Lodgement

In Xero. The return is a durable, versioned snapshot, so this can run whenever you’re ready.

  1. 5

    Load into Xero

When you’re ready to lodge, the signed-off data is pushed to Xero as Manual Journals. Because the return is a stored, versioned snapshot, this can happen straight away or much later.

  2. 6

    Verify & lodge

You verify the return in Xero, then lodge through Xero Tax to the ATO and record the receipt against the return.

The exact scope of the lodgement step at launch may vary. Talk to us about your workflow.
