How it works

From a pile of documents to a lodged return.

Two phases. Data preparation happens in TaxPilot; lodgement happens in your lodgement software, straight away or months later, from the same signed-off return.

Phase A · in TaxPilot

Data preparation

Ends at the “all green” gate, when you’ve signed off every figure.

Step 1

Upload

Documents arrive, uploaded by you or sent by the taxpayer into their secure vault. Each file is stored and de-duplicated.

Step 2

Classify

Each document is identified: PAYG summary, dividend statement, rental summary, managed-fund AMMA, crypto report, and so on. Anything ambiguous goes to a review queue rather than being guessed.

Step 3

Extract

Values are read from each document and mapped into the right worksheet fields, each carrying a confidence score and a link back to its place on the page.

Step 4

Review & green-light

You work through the figures in a split-pane reviewer: document on one side, extracted values on the other. Confirm, correct, or reject each one until the return is all green.

Phase B · in your lodgement software

Lodgement

The return is a durable, versioned snapshot, so this can run whenever you’re ready.

Step 5

Load into your lodgement software

When you’re ready to lodge, the signed-off data is pushed to your lodgement software as structured journal entries. Because the return is a stored, versioned snapshot, this can happen straight away or much later.

Step 6

Verify & lodge

You verify the return in your lodgement software, then lodge to the ATO and record the receipt against the return.

The exact scope of the lodgement step at launch may vary. Talk to us about your workflow.

Where the line sits

TaxPilot prepares. A registered agent reviews and lodges. That division does not move.

TaxPilot does this

  • Stores and de-duplicates every document that arrives
  • Identifies what each document is, and queues anything ambiguous
  • Reads values into worksheet fields with a confidence score and a source link
  • Holds one durable, versioned return per taxpayer and year
  • Pushes the signed-off data into your lodgement software

You do this

  • Confirm, correct or reject each extracted figure
  • Decide where an unmatched document belongs
  • Green-light the return
  • Verify it in your lodgement software and lodge it to the ATO
  • Record the ATO receipt against the return
